UAE's Tech Community Converges on Abu Dhabi for IDC's IT Security Roadshow 2017

Abu Dhabi – More than 200 senior IT executives gathered at Abu Dhabi's Sofitel Corniche Hotel today as International Data Corporation (IDC) continued the latest installment of its annual Middle East IT Security Roadshow. Featuring a mix of informative presentations and interactive panel discussions, the event showcased insights from some of the region's foremost IT security experts as they addressed the theme of 'Retaining Control of the Digital Enterprise'.
With digital transformation initiatives opening organizations up to a whole new wave of security threats, IDC expects spending on security solutions in the Middle East to reach an estimated $1.07 billion in 2017. Such initiatives sat front and center of the day's keynote address, 'Building the New Security Roadmap', which was presented by Megha Kumar, research director for software at IDC Middle East, Africa, and Turkey. During this session, she explored the issues that organizations will need to address in the digitally transformed era and outlined the factors that will shape the security strategies of tomorrow.
"Across the region, organizations are increasingly striving to execute digital transformation and bring innovation to the forefront," said Kumar. "They are doing this by leveraging 3rd Platform technologies and innovation accelerators in a bid to transform their processes, operations, and leadership and become full-fledged digital enterprises. The benefits of undergoing such transformation are well known; however, the trade-off comes in the form of new security vulnerabilities and myriad issues relating to risk and trust as organizations continuously implement new technologies in an effort to meet growing customer demand for a seamless omniexperience."
Cedric Warde, senior manager for managed services marketing at du, then took to the stage to explore the cybersecurity implications for the enterprises of tomorrow as they increasingly embrace the age of digital transformation. Mazen Dohaji, regional director at LogRhythm, continued the discussion by providing insights into the evolving nature of the threat landscape and advocating a new approach towards cybersecurity.
Whispering Bell director David Michaux stressed the need for organizations to conduct simulated ethical hacking and social engineering exercises in a bid to expose the gaping holes in their security perimeters, while Tarek Abbas, technical director at Palo Alto Networks, served up advice on building effective strategies for securing both public and private cloud deployments. Symantec security consultant Bayan Achkar followed up by shining a spotlight on the latest local and global cyberthreats facing the region's enterprises.
The delegates then split in half for two separate track sessions: 'Ensuring Effective Threat Intelligence' and 'Securing the Endpoint to the Cloud'. The former, chaired by IDC's Megha Kumar, featured contributions from Forcepoint, Darktrace, Check Point, and Nexthink. The latter, hosted by Saurabh Verma, senior research manager for IT services at IDC Middle East, Africa, and Turkey, and included insights from Fortinet, DriveLock, and RES.
The event's partners included du as Telecom Partner; ISACA UAE Chapter as ICT Partner; LogRhythm, Palo Alto Networks, and Symantec as Platinum Partners; Fortinet and Forcepoint as Gold Partners; Darktrace, DriveLock, Nexthink, RES, and Check Point as Silver Partners; and Tripwire and ARCON as Exhibit Partners.
